Home Insurance: When a insurance company pays on a home owners claim.? | |
Do they pay to repair the damage and the possible cause of the damage? Example: A window leaks due to poor installation or poor maintenance. Is the insurance company liable to repair the window and the damage it caused or just the damage?
Answers:
1i work for a major insurer so think i can help...... poor workmanship is not covered.. its an exclusion on your policy.... its up to your insurers and the cover you have provided if they decide to cover the internal damage :-) If you have accidental damage cover on your policy, they usually will.. If the windows have been poorly installed... you should be looking to the window company to deal with both the windows and the resultant damage that the event has caused
Maintenance issues are also a no no.... it is your responsiblity to make sure that your property is kept in reasonable condition.... if you think about it... if insurers covered maintenance issues... everyone would be ringing them to get their houses re-decorated etc..... thats not what insurance is for...... its for protection against unforeseen events... if you need more advice,,, drop me an e-mail
